The USS Enterprise

I agree with this post from the United States Naval Institute entirely. This corporate, boring, unimaginative process of naming aircraft carriers (basically: the bigger the ship, the more likely it will be named will be after a Republican politician) is a travesty.

Carriers should be named after something important, or about ships in the past which helped establish Naval tradition – Yorktown, Enterprise, Hornet. Not the John C. Stennis or Gerald Ford, much less the USN Barry Goldwater .

Having said that, the naming process of ships doesn’t surprise me at all. Doing something to score political points? Why…that’s Congress’ music!
