An 8.8 earthquake is massive. Incredibly massive (in fact, according to wikipedia it is the seventh-worst earthquake in the history of ever. Well, the recorded history of ever).

Eben Harrell from was in Santiago at the time and has posted a first-person account of what the quake was like. Also check out the BBC.

I’m watching CNN right now, and its actually pretty good coverage – mainly because it is not the normal CNN commentators – I think it is CNN international? Either way, its leaps and bounds above normal CNN coverage.

Between Haiti, Chile, Afghanistan, and all the other places devastated by war or disaster or who just need some level of assistance, this is such an opportunity to do actual, long term good.
