The corniest answer in all of politics (via Political Animal):

Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) ruled out a presidential campaign a few months ago, and reiterated yesterday that he will not be a candidate in 2012. Asked, however, about possibly joining the ticket as a V.P. nominee, Thune said, “I’m not going to rule anything out.”

At some point, can we as a society declare this answer is invalid? It’s dumb. It sounds dumb. It is so old. Nobody believes you are coy or witty; just say what you really mean: “If it is the right candidate and the right set of issues and the right time, of course I’d say yes.”
